New term begins on Monday 15th September 2025
Cranleigh Dance and Theatre Arts offer a range of dance and theatre classes for all ages and abilities.
Please have a good look around our website and contact us to sign up or if you have any questions.
Cranleigh Dance & Theatre Arts is a well established dance school which runs after normal school hours on Monday to Friday at the St. Nicolas Church Rooms, Church Lane, Cranleigh.
Pupils can take classes in Ballet, Modern and Tap at Grade and Major level and regularly enter examinations set by the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.). Children can start Ballet at three, Tap and Modern Dance at five. We also run classes at various age and ability levels in Jazz, Contemporary, Commercial, Musical Theatre and Singing alongside other freework classes and Acro.
There are Adult classes in Tap for both Beginners and Advanced and Adult fitness for all ages and abilities.
Cranleigh Dance & Theatre Arts strives to communicate a love of dance to all its students and encourages them to enjoy and appreciate the art of dance. We encourage pupils to develop self-discipline and self-motivation together with a sense of pride in their own achievements and in the achievements of other pupils and of the School.
The School aims to work in an open and co-operative way with pupils and their families and to foster and respect each student’s independence. We also recognise and respect the uniqueness, dignity and potential of every student and offer appropriate guidance for further progress. The School is geared to helping each child towards achieving their full potential; not only those students who wish to make their careers in the field of dance or the theatre but also those who wish simply to enjoy their once a week class.
Dance helps children develop physical fitness and important personal qualities:
a positive, confident and cheerful self-image
an enquiring mind, self-motivation and perseverance
self-discipline and a willingness to work hard
respect for other children and adults
an ability to co-operate with others
Our teaching staff work hard to see that these qualities are fostered.
We value each child in our care and aim to provide a secure and happy atmosphere where each child feels accepted. Every child learns at a different rate and our teaching staff respect this. They use their expertise and experience to make the most of each child’s potential by encouragement, praise, discussion and good example. We believe that children benefit most when parents and the School work together in mutual trust and respect. We will contact parents if we have a query; we hope you will talk to us about matters that concern you or your child.
We offer RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet classes for age 3 to 18.
Ballet dance is a classical dance style which many believe is the core style of all the dance styles.
We follow the RAD dance syllabuses from Primary to Advanced and also offer vocational ballet grades for those dancers who choose to develop their ballet performance and technical skills further.
If you are interested please contact us.
We offer ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Tap classes for age 5 to 18.
Tap dance is a style of dance that is super fun and challenging to learn. Building from basic tap steps to more technical and impressive steps, tap dance is a great skill to develop.
We offer examinations with the ISTD throughout the year and although these are encouraged within CDTA they are not compulsory.
If you are interested please contact us.
We offer both ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Modern and Jazz classes for ages 5 to 18.
Modern dance is a style of dance that is generally more upbeat and free than Ballet but still provides children with the skills and technique needed to develop their dance skill.
Jazz dance is a funky dance style, which focuses more on performance quality and demonstration of style, through a concise, fun syllabus.
We offer examinations with the ISTD throughout the year and although these are encouraged within CDTA they are not compulsory.
If you are interested please contact us.
We offer both musical theatre and singing classes.
In musical theatre children explore singing, acting and dance, becoming a 'triple threat' performer.
This is a fun, high energy class, which doesn't follow a prescribed syllabus so children can follow their own interests and ideas.
Our singing classes are pure singing lessons where children develop their voices and learn a range of songs of different styles and genres.
If you are interested please contact us.
At CDTA we are pleased to offer a range of dance styles and this includes Commerical dance and freework classes.
Commerical dance is a popular style incorporating street dance styles with more contemporary popular dance styles which often respond to popular current styles of music. Think 'pop video' dance.
Children learn dance routines to some of their favourite songs whilst developing their performance style and technique.
Our freework classes offer students the opportunity to develop their strength and flexibility whilst learning new skills and developing skills learnt in other classes.
If you are interested please contact us.
CDTA are pleased to offer Contemporary dance.
This non-syllabus class offers students the opportunity to explore their creative side and develop their own sense of movement without restriction.
Children can choreograph their own sequences and learn how to respond to creative ideas through movement.
Acro has been on the timetable for the last 2 years and is a popular class. Children learn different acrobatic movements and skills to enhance their dance performance. Dance 'tricks' are developed along with strength and flexibility.
